My approach to business isn't based on theories from a textbook. It was forged over 30 years of running my own and my family’s businesses. I know the pride of building something from the ground up, and I know the heartbreak of watching it face the unthinkable.
In 2011, our 25-year-old family party and event hire business went four meters underwater during the Brisbane floods. With the help of the "Mud Army" and our loyal customers, we spent 12 months trying to recover. But between the rusted stock and our own exhaustion, we realised we couldn't go on. We had to close the doors on a quarter-century of work.
The Lessons That Changed Everything
Looking back, I see so clearly what I didn't know then. I realised that a business needs more than just hard work to survive; it needs a foundation. That experience taught me the hard lessons I now use to protect my clients:
Your systems are your safety net: Without SOPs and a plan for the "what ifs," the business lives and dies with the owner's energy.
Your database is your true value: The relationships and data you hold are the most valuable assets you own.
Build it to sell it: Even if you never want to leave, you must set up your business so it could run without you. That is the only way to have true freedom.

Project Focus: Implemention of a complete Performance Management System for a small but growing TV station in London.
During this project, I worked closely with executive leadership to establish a systematic framework for performance, compensation, and talent development. This went far beyond simple HR; it involved creating the backbone for clear accountability and growth, including the salary structure, the KPI system, competency assessments, and talent identification pathways.
